NAZCCA – (Indivisible Cottonwood) @ Cottonwood Public Library
Sep 1 @ 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm

Dear Friend,

We have decided to cancel our monthly meetings at the Cottonwood Library (the monthly NAZCCA meeting will continue to be held at the Library on the 1st Saturday of each month from 12:30-1:45). Thanks to all who have attended in the past.

Moving forward we will be using this email list to share important information with you on actions you can take to help restore our Constitution and democracy to our nation.

The MOST important thing you can do right now is encourage all of your friends and family (regardless of where they live) to register to vote and vote in the upcoming primaries and general election in November. And make sure you are registered to vote and that you cast your ballot in these so very important elections. This is the best way that you can make your voice heard.

You can also continue to write, text, fax, email your Members of Congress and let them know how you feel about specific issues. One way of doing this is to text the word RESIST to the number 50409.

I will rise for Climate Change, Jobs, and Justice @ TBA
Sep 8 all-day

I will Rise for Climate, Jobs and Justice on September 8th and pledge to vote in November 2018!

Take the pledge:

peoplesclimatechange.org

We envision a world where our private and public leaders prioritize the protection of our planet; where solutions to remedy climate change are equitable, lift up those that are most impacted, and are rooted in racial and economic justice; and where facts win out over fiction and there is universal agreement about the impacts of climate change on the earth and all of its inhabitants.

We envision a world where a just transition to a clean and renewable energy economy creates millions of new, good jobs that can be unionized, provide family-sustaining wages, and foster professional and personal satisfaction; where returns on new energy investments go to those who have for decades been hardest hit and/or left behind; and where race, gender, income, and sexual identity don’t impact access to clean air and water.

We envision a world where job creation benefits everyone – especially displaced and workers of color; where people of all economic backgrounds can live in communities free from degradation; and where respect for the earth is mirrored in the respect we have for each other.

BALLOT QUESTIONS

UNDER DISCUSSION

AT NEXT DORR BREAKFAST

Voters will be asked to weigh in on five Statewide and several local ballot propositions in the upcoming general election.  Ballot measures often do not receive the same attention as candidates might, but are important as they propose laws or amendments that require voter approval.  The ballot questions that will in front of area voters will be discussed at the Democrats of the Red Rocks monthly breakfast on Thursday, September 20. The breakfast will be held at Olde Sedona Family Restaurant, 1405 W SR 89A, starting at 8AM.

There are five statewide ballot propositions.

Proposition 125 is a legislative referral related to the Public retirement systems for the Correction Officer Retirement Plan and the Elected Officials Retirement Plan.

Proposition 126 would prohibit local governments from establishing any new tax on “services.” There is no formal definition of what constitutes a “service” under state law.

Proposition 127 is a citizens’ initiative that would require private utilities to obtain 50% of their power from renewable resources by 2030.

Proposition 305 would approve Senate Bill 1431 to expand the state Empowerment Scholarship Account program (vouchers) to allow all public school students (K-12) to apply. Initially, the program was limited to children with

2615 Melody Lane, Sedona

Grab your coffee or drink thermos and come as you are to our monthly “Let’s talk Politics” at the Sedona Community Center, 2615 Melody Lane in West Sedona, Thursday morning, August 23rd, from 8:30 to 10:00. Kathy Kinsella, President of League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley, will be leading the discussion.

Because we want you should join us, we thought it would be fun to challenge you to come again during a lazy summer day and share your thoughts and insights regarding the news of the day. Some interesting events have occured since our July gathering. Everyone has time to speak and we all listen. What is keeping you awake at night? What has outraged you? We are also going to take some time to listen to you share your vision of what you would like to see happen with our government and our democracy. It is now time to also focus on our vision for the future.

Whatever your political persuasion we would like to hear from you.
