Big Park Fun Run @ Big Park Community School PTSA
May 9 @ 4:00 am – 4:15 am

Dear Big Park Community School Supporter,

The Big Park Fun Run returns to Big Park on Wednesday, May 9th. Students, staff, families and general community members will walk or run for 30 minutes on our school course. Students will seek donations for their efforts during the three weeks prior to the Fun Run; Big Park Community School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is currently seeking event sponsorships. Your sponsorship dollars will help cover the cost of the Fun Run and increase our earning potential for this event. Together, we are raising funds for Big Park classrooms. We support Big Park Community School in its mission to provide students with a world-class education, right here in the Village of Oak Creek.

We anticipate more than 200 students taking part in this year’s Fun Run. In addition to seeking donations and running/walking on May 9th, students will explore the IB Learner Profile Traits, a cornerstone of Big Park’s emerging International Baccalaureate program. Each classroom forms a “team.” Each team has it’s own identity and will create a cheer to represent the IB Learner Profile Trait assigned to their class: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Courageous, Balanced and Reflective.

We are proud to raise funds in a way that engages our students, while supporting their health, vitality and emotional intelligence. We hope you’ll support our efforts through event sponsorship. Sponsorships range from $50 to $750, so there is something for everyone.

Big Park Community School PTSA is a local unit of Arizona PTA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit association. Big Park Community School PTSA is tax exempt under federal and state law; we will provide you with Tax ID information upon receipt of your contribution.

Thank you for supporting our students, our neighborhood school and the broader community!

Sincerely,

Big Park Community School Fun Run Committee

Katie Chorlton, Niccole D’Adamo, Amy Davis, Heather Hermen, Debbie Jones, Heidi Kenney, Viviane Kraus, Mariana Laas, Debbie Metzger, Karen Muschkat, Creed Ostler, Diane Schumacher, Theresa Weston-Morris

Joan Chittister: Her story, my story, our story @ Mary D Fisher Theater
Jun 7 @ 7:00 pm

NEXT WEEK!
Sedona International Film Festival
is proud to present

Teri Bays’ One-Woman Play

For 15 years Teri Bays’ beautiful voice was heard at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Though Sedona residents and visitors might miss her angelic voice, audience members across the country are thrilled to see her perform — and also hear her sing — in her one-woman play, “Joan Chittister: Her story, my story, our story”.

Now, Bays is bringing her show back home to Sedona for a one-night performance at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m.

A timely piece, “Joan Chittister: Her story, my story, our story” addresses issues around women, abuse, identity and overcoming adversity. Joan Chittister happens to be a Benedictine nun, an international speaker and author on subjects of peace, justice and women’s issues.

“Joan is a passionate and prophetic voice in the church today. It is the thrill of my life, to play this remarkable woman and speak her inspiring words,” said Bays.

One has to see the play to discover the connection between Chittister and Bays. But as the threads of their lives are revealed, audience members begin to see themselves in the story as well.

“The show has changed a bit from the first performance, Teri explained. “I added a song, I cut whole sections and changed the beginning.”

After reading the script Chittister wrote, “The work is seamlessly, artfully and movingly welded together. It’s a fresh and interesting approach to the notion of the universality of women today. It has heart and substance … great praise.”
Recently Chittister herself saw the play. When asked about that performance for Chittister, Bays said, “Performing ‘Joan Chittister’ the play for Joan Chittister was an emotional experience — for both of us.”

The Vatican tried to prevent Chittister from speaking in 2001, but she continues to be a sought-after speaker throughout the world, having written over sixty books and over seven hundred articles.Teri Bays performed in several off-Broadway shows in New York City including “The Duplex” and starred in several leading roles including Maria in “The Sound of Music”, Anita in “West Side Story” and The Witch in “Into the Woods”. Sedona residents might remember her playing opposite her Broadway-actor husband in Neil Simon’s “Chapter Two” at the Canyon Moon Theatre. Teri has written a book and recorded two CDs in addition to this play.

Meet January Contreras @ Private Home
Jun 20 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Dear Friend,
As you know, we have long been involved in supporting good causes and candidates for public office. From time to time, we have asked our friends to contribute to candidates whom we believe can make a difference. Few will make as much of a difference as January Contreras when she becomes the next Attorney General of Arizona in 2018.

Please join us on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 5:30 pm for refreshments at 80 Mitchell Dr Sedona, AZ 86336. You will have the opportunity to meet January and support her campaign for Attorney General. If you cannot join us, please consider supporting our efforts to help her be elected.

Since we met January, we have been impressed by her intelligence and record as a prosecutor and a public servant. After serving as a Deputy Maricopa County Attorney and Assistant Attorney General, she became an advisor to Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano. She has since founded a non-profit to fight for children and victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. January has the judgment and energy to lead the largest law firm in the state, but more importantly, she has the conviction and vision needed to move Arizona forward.

We need an Attorney General committed to protecting Arizona’s most vulnerable people and standing up to the extreme policies of the Trump Administration. As an Arizona Assistant Attorney General, she protected small businesses from financial crimes and pursued perpetrators of elder abuse and exploitation. At the Department of Homeland Security, she led the charge to establish the Council on Combating Violence Against Women.

As we have seen in political races across the country, voters are ready to fight back to restore honor and integrity to government. Voters want leaders ready to focus on serious policy making. They are looking for candidates like January.

We hope all who attend will consider making a contribution of $150, $100, $50, or whatever you are comfortable contributing. Please RSVP by calling Jeff at (928) 300- 7313 or by emailing to [email protected].

We hope to see you on the 20th,

Jeff Dissinger and Pam Drake

P. S. If you cannot attend, please consider making a contribution online. Please go to our event page for January’s campaign at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/jdissinger. Thanks!
