Here in Arizona, we want to highlight the irreplaceable Upper Verde River and the effort to designate it as the state’s next Wild and Scenic River. The Verde River is an extraordinary ribbon of life through the heart of Arizona. The Upper Verde – extending from east of Paulden to the town of Clarkdale – is one of the cleanest, healthiest, economically important, and culturally significant free-flowing rivers remaining in Arizona.

No crowns. No thrones. No kings.
Those are principles America was founded upon. They were the battle cry of the Continental Congress that adopted the American flag in June of 1777, in the midst of a war to throw off a monarchy. June 14 in fact — Flag Day.
Donald Trump has disgraced those principles. He’s actively defying our courts, sidelining Congress, cracking down on dissent, and, with this ego-driven military parade, stealing from the people to pay for his birthday party.
No Kings Day is how we’ll remind Trump, and all of our fellow Americans, that we don’t suffer kings in this country. Trump wants the world to see a glorious and powerful ruler, but what we’ll show them is a weak and unpopular president — a lame duck flailing for attention as the masses stand up to reject him.
Millions showed up on April 5 for the Hands Off! protests. Over a thousand events were held during the May Day mobilization last week.
On June 14, let’s stand together again, in even bigger numbers, against Trump’s cruelty, corruption, and abuses of power. Click here to find an event (or host your own) and make a plan to gather and remind Trump: America has No King!
Join Southside CommUnity Association for a family friendly Juneteenth Celebration at the Murdoch Center. Enjoy the festivities for live music, local vendors, food, and community fun. We’ll be registering new voters and connecting with our neighbors.

In America, we don’t put up with would-be kings. NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.
On Saturday, June 14, we’re taking to the streets nationwide. We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind.
On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings. Check out nokings.org for more information.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

This summer it’s time turn up the heat!
Come join us for a training on absorption so we can get oriented toward growing our movement and building our skills to effectively welcome thousands of new people into SURJ!
Who is this training for?
- Anyone who wants to learn about absorption and build your skills to effectively bring people into our movement in times of political activation, and anyone who is planning on hosting a mass meeting this summer!
What is absorption?
- Absorption is both an orientation toward using moments of political activation to bring more people into a movement, and it’s also the skills that go along with growing our movements effectively.
Why do we absorb?
- We absorb because in order to achieve our goals, we need to use solidarity power (the ability to work and act together as a collective) to move large amounts of people to to build the world we want to see. In order to harness solidarity power, we must always be growing our movements and welcoming more people to move and take action with us.
This training will cover:
- SURJ’s long-term strategy and goals, and why we organize white people
- SURJ’s plan to support members, circles and chapters to host mass meetings throughout the summer to welcome more people into our movement
- The fundamentals of absorption: the whys, how tos, best practices, and how to create an absorption plan grounded in your context
- Examples of absorption successes and fails
- Next steps for getting involved, doing your own absorption, and hosting a mass meeting.
We are offering three absorption trainings on June 12th, 18th and 26th. These are STAND ALONE trainings and they are not a series. We will be offering the SAME training on each of these dates to offer people different scheduling options for attending, so you only need to sign up for ONE of these trainings!
PLEASE RSVP: https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/803186/

Los Angeles student Jasyln Hernandez graduated from high school last week, just like thousands of other teenagers. But her father wasn’t there to see it.1
He was one of two dozen people taken in an ICE raid at a carwash where he worked, and Jaslyn doesn’t know when she’ll see him again. Only four of the 26 people detained have been located by their families.2
ICE raids of workplaces, courthouses, and even school neighborhoods are becoming more frequent, with a goal of arresting 3,000 people a day, separating families and shutting down businesses. And now the National Guard are accompanying ICE on many of these raids.3
Donald Trump campaigned on deporting “criminals” but the reality has been very different. What laws allow ICE to detain people without due process? What happens to children once their parents are taken? And what can we do to help protect this vulnerable community? We’re going to find out!
Join us on Tuesday, June 24, at 7:30PM ET to hear from Mayra Casas Jackson of the Immigrant & Refugee Law Center as we discuss immigration basics, the rights of immigrants, and how you can offer real support.
Our immigrant neighbors are a vital part of our communities and they deserve to feel safe, supported, and welcome.
Not only do immigrants without legal status pay nearly $60 billion in federal taxes every year, but they are people who expand the beautiful tapestry that makes up our nation.4
Taking action at the local level can absolutely make a difference, as it is our local representatives who decide whether to protect kids in our schools or use local jails to hold arrested immigrants and help ICE facilitate these raids.
Plus, mass disinformation is being spread about immigrants and their rights. That’s why we’ve invited Mayra to help set the record straight!
Now is the time to get the facts about immigration in the U.S. Join us on Tuesday, June 24 to learn about how we can take action!

Congress will soon vote on whether to advance a budget resolution that would take away nearly a trillion dollars of support and assistance from everyday people, including the largest proposed cuts to Medicaid in history.
This budget would enact more than $1 trillion in cuts to vital public programs their own constituents depend on, including Medicaid, food assistance, and education, to help fund their massive tax giveaway for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.
Join MoveOn, Working Families Power, Indivisible, Community Change Action, and Public Citizen for a national phone bank to Medicaid recipients urging them to call their Senators ahead of the upcoming budget vote to stop the cuts and save Medicaid!

“The Last Class” is a nuanced and deeply personal portrait of master educator Robert Reich teaching his final course and reflecting on a period of immense transformation, personally and globally. It is a love letter to education.
The former Secretary of Labor might be famous for his public service, best-selling books, and viral social media posts, but he always considered teaching his true calling. Now, after over 40 years and an extraordinary 40,000 students, Reich is preparing for his last class.
Over the course of the film, Reich confronts the impending finality, and his own aging, with increasing candor, introspection, and, ultimately, emotion. He displays a rawness of feeling he has never shared publicly before. Drawing on his lifetime in politics, he uses his class, “Wealth and Poverty,” to offer us all a deeper look at why inequalities of income and wealth have widened significantly since the late 1970s, and why this poses dangerous risks to our society.
One thousand students fill the biggest lecture hall on the UC Berkeley campus, the last class to receive Reich’s wisdom and exhortations not to accept that the world has to stay the way it is. His belief in the next generation’s ability to take on the fight is inspiring.
Saturday, July 12th, 4:30 to 7:30, we are hosting a taco bar and a chance to tell your story about how the current administration’s policies have impacted your life, your family or your friends life. Do you have a Veteran who is impacted? Do you have a friend who lost their federal job?
We are hosting a taco bar with meat & tortillas and need you to bring the fixings! Please text 317-440-7444 to coordinate what to bring!
Your story is recorded in a private room and will be sent to Senator Kelly’s office. He is asking for stories about citizens who are hurt by the current administration’s policies. These stories are powerful and make a huge impact in Congress. Please help!
Enjoy fellowship & getting to know your neighbors!
