Arizona PBS, in partnership with The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com, is hosting the only live television debate between U.S. Senate candidates Martha McSally and Kyrsten Sinema on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m.
The hourlong debate will cover local and national issues. McSally, a two-term congresswoman from Tucson, and Sinema, a three-term congresswoman from Phoenix, are competing for an open seat in the U.S. Senate. Incumbent Jeff Flake has declined to seek a second term.
Because of the debate, PBS NewsHour will air at 5 p.m.
“Arizona Horizon” host Ted Simons and Arizona Republic/azcentral.com reporter Maria Polletta will serve as moderators for the debate.
The public can watch the debate live on Arizona PBS at 6 p.m. as well as at www.azpbs.org. The debate will air again at 10 p.m. on Arizona PBS.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS GREATER VERDE VALLEY
TO HOST BALLOT PARTIES AS PART OF VOTER EDUCATION PROGRAM
The League of Women Voters of Greater Verde Valley (LWVGVV) is launching a major voter education effort in advance of the General Election November 6.
LWVGVV will host a series of “Ballot Parties” as part of the League’s public information and voter education services. The parties provide an opportunity for voters to review election ballots and discuss non-partisan information about the offices and propositions facing voters. Special attention will be given to the five statewide and numerous local ballot propositions. Parties will be hosted by League members, and give attendees an opportunity to ask questions and examine these propositions more fully before casting their votes.
“This is a challenging time for Arizona voters,” remarked Kathy Kinsella, LWVGVV president. “In addition to numerous offices and candidates on the ballot — at all levels from federal to local — there are numerous ballot propositions to consider. Participating thoughtfully in the General Election is a vital part of making a difference in one’s community and state. The League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley (LWVGVV) is here to help voters prepare to cast their votes.”
LWVGVV will host Ballot Parties in the Verde Valley during the weeks leading into the election. Parties will be held in private homes and in the following public venues:

Tuesday, October 23rd: Candidate Town Hall
Organize a town hall in your Congressional district with candidates running for office on the local, state, or federal level. We recommend planning this town hall as early as possible.
Here, candidates can voice their support of or opposition to our common-sense gun safety measures.
If you are new to planning town halls, the Town Hall Project has helpful resources that will assist you through the process.

“Putting the Squeeze on Allen, Thorpe & Blackman”
We need Canvassers, Canvass Buddies and Drivers for a Payson Day of Action!
Next Saturday, October 27th, DORR and the White River Democrats are combining forces in Payson to canvass for the LD6 and Statewide Democratic Candidates. White River volunteers from the North and DORR volunteers from the West will put the squeeze on Sylvia Allen, Bob Thorpe and Walt Blackman.
There are 2,000 Democrats and Democratic-leaning registered voters in Payson (compare that with 3,000 in Sedona). We have done a great job thus far in Sedona and in our joint effort in Cottonwood. We will extend that success to Payson, where Republicans are taking their support for granted! Let’s support this joint effort to help local Payson activists deliver an unwelcome surprise to these reactionary career politicians on November 6th.
RSVP: Cathy Rutherford [email protected] or 928-220-5391.

Two more opportunities: The League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley two more ballot review parties on its calendar. The parties are gathering where we go over our very complicated election ballot. The last two on our schedule are in private homes, one in the Chapel area of Sedona on Sunday, Oct 28 at 3 PM and the other in the Village of Oak Creek on Monday, Oct 29 at 4PM.
Someone from LWVGVV will be on hand to go over the various offices that up for election. Special attention will be paid to the ballot proposals. There are five state-wide ballot proposals and several local ones. We have heard from this who have already attended ballot parties that they found them helpful. It’s a fun way to get together and share any questions before the November 6 election.
If you are interested in attending, please reply to this email and I can provide addresses and directions. Thanks for voting!
