MARCH – WOMENS MARCH SEDONA @ Gather at the Corner
Jun 25 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am

WE ARE MARCHING!

Saturday, June 25 at 9AM
Gather at the corner of Route 89A and Northview Road
(by Jack Jameson Memorial Park).
We will march to 2575 Route 89A for brief

They really did it.

We knew it was coming, but now it is official.  The Conservatives on the Supreme Court of the United States have overturned a basic health care right that has been in place for nearly 50 years.  This will be the first time in our country’s history that a generation of women will come of age with FEWER rights than the preceding generation.

Half of the states in our country are poised to move quickly to ban abortion. The SCOTUS decision has already “triggered” laws in South Dakota, Louisiana and Kentucky that immediately outlaw abortion.  Missouri’s State Attorney General moved to enact that state’s trigger law within minutes of the Supreme Court ruling. Thirteen states are moving to outlaw abortion within the next 30 days.  Seven more are poised to act within the next few months.  Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin are among the 10 states that have pre-Roe abortion bans that are now expected to take effect.

In Arizona, it is unclear whether all abortions will be banned based on a law that is still on the books from the 1800’s or only those after 15 weeks, will be outlawed, as per the recent legislation signed by Gov. Ducey.

Women will be forced to travel across taste lines, in some cases hundreds of miles to access the health care they need.  Those without the means to do so will be forced by the state to carry their pregnancies to term.  This chaos will create a public health emergency as women’s lives, health, and futures are dictated by the states in which they live.

Sedona Mayoral Candidate Forum – Topic Climate Change @ KeepSedona Beautiful
Jul 5 @ 6:00 pm

Join us at KSB, 360 Brewer Rd, Sedona on Tuesday, July 5 at 6:00 pm. Voters unable to attend in person will be able to watch the forum and ask questions via THIS ZOOM LINK.

Keep Sedona Beautiful (KSB), Northern Arizona Climate Change Alliance (NAZZCA) and the Sustainability Alliance will co-host a Mayoral Candidate Forum: Environmental Changes and Sedona’s Climate Action Plan.

The Mayoral Candidate Forum will address the City’s response to the threats of climate change. Sedona adopted its Climate Action Plan (CAP) in July 2021. The Climate Action Plan (CAP) “sets a goal to cut Sedona’s greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. Reaching this target—which aligns with the international scientific recommendation for preventing the worst climate change impacts—will require involvement and commitment from the entire city. Local government, residents, businesses, and community leaders must work together to bring forth innovative and impactful solutions that work for Sedona” (sedonaaz.gov).

Forum moderator will be KSB President Craig Swanson. The Forum will involve a brief welcome, an opening round of one-minute self-introductions, and candidate responses to Climate-Action oriented questions. Audience members will then have an opportunity to pose questions. The public is invited and there is no charge for admission. Campaign literature and voter registration forms will also be available to attendees.

Our agenda includes (time permitting) but is not limited to the following items:
1. Social time and dinner. Meet fellow Democrats and enjoy food and drink from the menu. Talk about what is on your mind and share ideas.
2. Introduction.
3. Discussion on current political developments: Arizona Primary results, GOTV, the impact of outlawing abortion, and the Jan 6 hearings. We might have a surprise guest speaker – it depends on the primary outcome.
4. Call to the Public. People will have 2 minutes to speak about whatever is on their mind. Cards will be collected before the meeting with their name, organization, and a brief summary of statement. The goal here is to give attendees a chance to engage more, get their questions answered and their voices heard.

Mission for Arizona and Democrats of the Red Rocks are joining forces and knocking on doors for Democrats across the ticket in the VOC!
Door knocking has a significant impact on shaping our electorate – people reached by door knocks are 7-10% more likely to vote. DORR and Mission’s combined infrastructure ensures that we reach as many of our neighbors as possible to continue the historic turnout we achieved in 2020.

We’ll send out the meeting location to all RVSPs prior to the event date and make sure everyone gets trained on how to talk to voters, how to record responses, and canvassing best practices. Then, we’ll hit the doors!
