The Treasury Department projects that the US government will only be able to pay it’s bills through June 1 without a debt limit increase. That means we’re only eight days away from a default – and the worldwide economic catastrophe it would create! The Republicans are literally holding the debt payment legislation hostage, so they can get budget cuts they want!
There’s still a way to stop the crisis: House Democrats have introduced a Discharge Petition, which is an escape hatch to bring a clean default prevention bill to the House floor, even if Kevin McCarthy tries to block it. For this to work, 218 Members of Congress must sign on and refuse to negotiate on cuts that will hurt our communities.

If the Republicans want to cut necessary programs, they should do it in separate legislation that doesn’t threaten a global financial crisis!
